Material handling in the packaging industry 

The packaging industry has called for a safe and efficient solution to a long-standing major challenge concerning material handling, which entails a series of processes to handle a variety of material of different weights and volumes, among other things, including receiving and handling the incoming material, moving the material to the warehouse and flowing finished products from the production lines onto the trucks.

Invited by a large packaging technology company in Shanghai, the SOUTHWORTH’s pre-sales team conducted a field investigation at its manufacturing base that is committed to the refined management of production processes and material handling.

The findings during the communication revealed that the costly concrete lift platform was not adjustable to fit well with truck carriages of different heights nor able to deal with unstable loads in a fast and safe way. Therefore, the SOUTHWORTH team, based on the field investigation and survey, provided such a customized pit-type lift platform for loading and unloading operations.

Product Specification

With a capacity of 3 tons, the lift platform is equipped with a table that is 4-meter long and nearly 2-meter wide and made from the customized checker plate with handrails at both sides against the sideslip and for safe operation. It can vertically travel nearly half a meter in 15 seconds. The equipment body is coated in classic white.

Application details 

When a truck loading the raw materials enters the handling area, the lift platform rises to the height of the truck carriage, followed by that a pallet jack enters the truck to fetch materials and stacks them onto the platform, which then falls to the ground level when a forklift delivers materials out of the lift platform and transports them to the stacking area. The pit-type platform, being adjustable against different heights of truck carriages, moves fast vertically and ensures the work safety. It will go back to the ground level when there is no handling operation, giving back the area for other normal usages.
